TOM MAZZA- Limousine guru passes away!

Tom Mazza who inspired us all, and gave us education within the limousine industry passed away.

This is a sad day for us all who were inspired and motivated by a man who had knowledge, love and passion for this industry.

I pray that his family heals from this loss. He was a legend and an inspiration for all limousine operators.

I got his tapes "limousine 101" and learned the core basics of succeeding in this industry.

Tom; you will be missed:

Tom Mazza, a native of Philadelphia, is a graduate of the journalism school at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mazza was involved in a number of entrepreneurial ventures before joining the limousine industry in 1990. In addition to teaching and outside sales positions, Tom was a color analyst for more than 75 division 1 college basketball games as well as doing sports talk, commercials, and a college basketball coach’s show on WTTM in Trenton, NJ and WFUL in Philadelphia.

Mazza operated a 10-car limousine service with his brother Mark in the Philadelphia area for almost 7 years. While working as an operator Mazza saw a large void for education and training within the limousine industry.

Tom Mazza has filled that void since 1996 with a dizzying array of successful ventures including:

  • Self-published “The Complete Guide to Operating a Successful Limousine Service", part 1 and 2 and sold over 1100 copies via direct mail.
  • Became Senior Editor of Limousine and Chauffeured Transportation Magazine from 1997-2002.
  • Became the most popular seminar presenter at 9 LCT national shows.
  • Established “Tom Mazza Consulting” in 2003 with a “Who’s Who” of industry players as clients.
  • Launched 3 “industry success groups” where more than 50 limousine company owners shared financial benchmarks and best practices in nearly 100 meetings since 2002.
  • Wrote, authored, and starred in the industry’s top chauffeur training program “The Ultimate Chauffeur Training Program” partnering with Eric Alpert and the Modern Technology Group. (MTG)
  • Served as Executive Director of the National Limousine Association in 2002 and 2003.
  • Trained more than 6000 professional chauffeurs as of 2009.
  • Co-authored, Stretching It: The Story of the Limousine with historian Michael Bromley, published by SAE press.
  • Narrated Modern Marvels Episode on “The History Channel” on the story of the limousine.
  • 2003: Became educational coordinator of The Limousine Digest Show and which instantly became the premiere educational program in the industry.
  • Consistently rated TOP speaker at national Show.
  • Featured speaker at more than 50 regional and national limousine shows.
  • 2006: Released with MTG, “The Ultimate Guide to Operating a Successful Limousine Service.”
  • Launched “Tom Mazza Sales and Management Training Seminars” with training programs around the country for Sales, chauffeur managers, reservations agents, and GM’s.
  • 2007: Began “Tom Mazza Executive and Sales Search” placing top executives around the industry.
  • 2008: Began actively selling “Mergers and Acquisitions” with deals closing and pending around the country.
  • TMC has worked with 23 national “Operators of the Year” as designated by national trade publications.
  • Quoted by magazines and publications including: FORTUNE, Seventeen, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and New York Times

JUNE 10th- New York City Puerto Rican Day Parade- Limousine & Taxi shortage in New York City

JUNE 10TH 2012- NEW YORK CITY LIMOUSINE AND TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY with Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Sunday June 10th 2012, New York City experienced shortage of transportation  ranging from TaxiCab, Black Cars and Limos.

We accepted many retail trips for sedans on a short notice trips from New York City & surrounding airports.

There were about 2 million spectators and some 80,000 marchers along Fifth Avenue on Sunday, June 10th for the 2012 Puerto Rican Day Parade.

In addition,  couple it with beautiful sunny weekend, street fairs and other activities within Manhattan, surely had New York City extremely active.

Of course, motor vehicular congestions make it somewhat harder to service the public, and for this matter the demand for all types of transportation risen significantly betweem 14:00 -till about midnight.

We are excited to say that even our late night evening SBV (Stand By Vehicle Sedan) which starts from 20:00hours till 06:30AM was very busy running back and forth between Manhattan, Long island and the surrounding Airports.

We always have a dedicated SBV (Stand By Vehicle), which not only serves as a back up vehicle for our corporate clients, affiliates, hotel concierges, but can also intake last minute trips and cover such trips.

YES, our SBV Town Car is running Monday thru Friday from 20:00 hours till 06:30AM.

On Sundays we have an SBV sedan starting at 15:00 hours till midnight.

In addition, we have access to many first class network of affiliates who can service our clients with short notice within the tri state area.

Low Paying Limos looking for relief in Congestions

Today May 31st 2012, congestions were all over.

We were called up by a Limousine operator in NY affiliate network with whom we attempted to do business providing limousine svc in New York .

Unfortunately, this affiliate paid us 6 weeks later, billing errors and underpaid what they agreed, making payout much less than most Black Car Services charge.

This network is Sunnys Limousine from Virginia. Well, we would have loved to help them cover their trips, however there are no incentive to help someone who pays you 1/4 of your own published rates and 6 weeks later.

I guess,  the only way we will perform any services for this company ever again is that they provide a credit card, and pay us our rates.

We cannot work at $37.00 Laguardia Airports and $37.00 Hobokens with no waiting time. It is days like such, when these  affiliate networks feel the pressure and heat being stuck with trips and not covering them at all. In addition, how about possibly losing the account altogether?

There other affilate networks as LimoRes and GroundLink which dictate market prices and take on work as a limo broker.

In most cases when owner ops become unwilling and unavailable to perform flat rate trip to and from airports at $35=$40, they turn to affiliates.

I find these types of affiliates pretty useless and I would spend my time marketing.

Today, NY Limousines truly demonstrated who can be reliable and whose a clown.

I am glad tp say that wecovered all trips despite traffic here in NY.

As far as Sunnys Limousine, I sent a memo to their affiliate manager that they can call us anytime, however all trips are subject to our rates with credit card billing.

We cannot deliver spectacular service at$17-$37 rates with no wait time and a 6 weeks to collect mere $180.00.

I guess the lesson is that the choices are to cover the trips, pay affiliates equitably and remain in business OR CHEAT AFFILIATES, get no coverage in such congested periods and possibly lose an account due to poor service and continous excuses like "Too much traffic"

We are availbale to any affiliate here in New York and will service them just as a client-however we cannot provide First class service at Taxi Cab prices.

RETURN OF T HE UGLY LIMOS!

Okay, I recently posted UGLY Limos Post.

Of course in New York I have seen some ugly limos, but I  wonder if these are uglier or the ones spotted in New York City.

Once again, these UGLY Limos consider themselves to be works of Art, their inner creative side is what sets them apart.

Of course, most of us consider it UGLY.

Its just that New York City is the city of Arts, and how is it that I have not spotted such works of unpleasant Art here in NY, which we also refer to as UGLY LImos.

In any case, I am posting more of Ugly Limo part 2.

Who spent time in stretching these beasts? what incentive? Why such an effort?

Can this be ART?

Ugly Limousines of New York?

Ugly Limousines of New York?

I was wondering if anyone has seen a limousine in New York which is not the quite expected in a limousine.

What would consititute the most ugliest limousines seen in New York?

I have seen some pimped out stretched limousines and older limousines withe excessive lighting, large chrome wheels, colourful stripes, racing decals and even a driver who comes dressed up as a thug.

Most recently, there was an older 1980's Cadillac 6 seater stretchlimousine in white color roaming streets of Long Island and New York City. He had purple neons and red upholstery and clouds of smoke coming from the drivers window which would be slightly cracked. I wonder of he was smoking weed and driving this limousine in New york City streets.

However, speaking of ugly, I found some pics online, wondering if they are ugly or just plainly works of art.

Check these limousines out.

MKT HYBRID new redesigned car for chauffeured Limousine market?

MKT has been redeisgned for 2013:

The 2013 MKZ will be on sale this summer and sports three powertrain options: (1) 240-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with a gas rating of 33 mpg highway; (2) 300-hp V6 with gas rating of 26 mpg; and (3) the MKZ Hybrid, with a fuel economy rating of 47 mpg city/ 44 mpg highway. The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid also is one of three luxury livery vehicles available to the chauffeured transportation industry through Ford Fleet Limousine & Livery Vehicles.

Can this vehicle be the replacement for Limousine market here in NY, NJ and CT?

I do have to admit that it has a luxurious look and would be great Town Car replacement for the New York Limousine Market.

I prefer this vehicle over the MKT, however the trunk space has to be examined.

Otherwise, It can succeed the NY Limousine Service market.

Even a stretched out MKZ limousine would be a great replacement.

New Yorkers need the comfort, luxury what the Town Car offered.

I hope to see this new MKZ for the New York Limousine market soon.

Air Conditions working in Limos on a very HotHumid day in New York, New Jersey and CT area.

May 29th 2012- Today almost every limo in NJ, NY and CT had their A/C's cranked up to MAX COLD air.

It is a very hot and humid day. Now is the time for those limousine operators, especially the stretch limousines to double check if the rear cabin is cranking cold air.

Clean them condensors on them limos and make sure your a/c has no air or vacuum leaks.

The worst thing is to have a client in New York in a stretch limousine and no air condition.

My experience on the stretches were that keep the A/C system safe stupid simple BUT WORKING!

For this reason, all my stretches during service are done by Alfa Ignition. In some cases, he removed those complex valves operated by electronics and made valves wtih turning knobs. Turn the knob clockwise for cold air and counter clock wise for heat.

As a limo operator in New York City, it was  and is critical to be effective and have the limo on road as opposed to being poised with some of these warranty service centers offered by coach builders who are concerned with ordering part and keeping my vehicle out of service so they may bill Krystal or Dabryan.

All you Town Car, Lexus and Stretch Limousines in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, today was a warning to double check those A/C systems of your fleet.

We at CSL Manhattitude Executive Transportation are happy to say that all of our new model fleet has undergone all service checks and we are good to go for the summer.

24 hour service, NY, NJ, CT

Limousines on memorial Day in New York City & Hamptons

New Yorkers escape out to celebrate the Memorial day weekend out in the Hamptons.

Limousine Services in New York City become outstripped with demand from serving corporate and leasure customers to and from airports and dropping clients out in the Hamptons.

Out in Suffolk County< Southamptons The limousine operators were busy with limousine business for night out charters. Considering so many parties, drinking and golfing, its a better idea to hire chauffeured cars in Long island wheer cops are very active in pulling over motorists.

We observed that the helicopters were returning back New Yorkers on helicopters back from Hamptons today.

Heliports were busy with Limousines picking up clients who were helicoptered into NYC.

However, some were being brought back into NYC on Town Cars, Escalades and limos.

Okay, back to business today. maybe the next round will be 4th of July weekendwhen New Yorkers willexit out to Hamptons. Hampton Limos will be awaiting some active night out charters on sedans, SUVs and LIMOS  as NYC will be somewhat on a break from Night out and partying.

CORVETTE STRETCH LIMOUSINE, C3, C4, C6 STRETCH LIMOS

STRETCHED  CORVETTES?

I am a big fan of Corvettes since childhood.

As a teenager, I would pause, drop my books as a monster exhaust C4 Corvette would drive by me.

I was determined, that one day I will be an owner of a mean custom Corvette.

My first car was a 1979 Camaro painted by Earl Scheib. My next upgrade was a 1984 Camaro Z28 with an 87 and newer 5.7L aluminum block engine and worked heads, exhaust, cam and a Holley Carb.

However still in my heart, there was fire for a Vette.

I started my Limousine company in 1999, and I did a few projects. I introduced a London Cab, fully customized.

I redone a stretch limousine calling it the Whiskey Edition.

Then I redone an 84 Vette with a TPI setup. All custom work, from injectors, intake, throttle body, runners, PCI wiring and fuel lines. NOS plumbing and redone from ground up.

However, I never knew there were bigger Corvette freaks than myself.

Check this out. I spotted three Stretched out Corvettes Limousines online.

A c3 stretched out Corvette Limo. A c4 stretched out Corvette Limo(92 or newer).

And the most impressive C6 stretched out Corvette Limousine.

For all of you Corvette lovers, check out these Limousines.

I do give them credit for undertaking such a task of stretching out such cars. Again, this all custom frame rails, interior, electrical work, drive shaft, transmission mounts and windows.

I am not considering to own and operate a stretch Corvette Limousine, however I do admire their talent and efforts of undertaking such task.

I hope to see these Corvette Limousines at the annual Carlyle show.

All fellow Corvette owners, salute these limos when spotted on road.

I believe the C4 Corvette Limousine is in New York, whereas the C6 Corvette Limousines is out in Los Angeles.

New York Corvette Limousine, los Angeles Corvette Limousine.

I am not sure where the C3 Corvette Limousine may be operating, where it may be, we would like to know.

I am also adding images of these limousines.

Trip Tracker Software for Limousine reservations

Dear all Limo operators:

I have been looking into Limousine Reservation systems comparing functions, price and features and company experience.

I found that many small operators cannot pay for systems such as LMS, Odyssey and Livery Coach.

I found that most small operators get trapped into Limo Anywhere system because they can dispatch from virtually anywhere.

However, given that all the data remains on external servers, Cloud based.

This is a problem if LimoAnywhere's system does down because one has to rely on LimoAnywhere for everything.

In addition, LimoAnywheres hidden charges and baseprice of $1,000 and monthly fees come out to over $2000 in two year period time span.

An ideal software is where limited dependancy, controlled costs over long term, and a system which can be integrated with major GDS systems such as Ground Travel or Sabre.

For all of these reasons, we are operating TRIP TRACKER.

I am pleased to say that you really get a good software, and can built it up to a high performance system with needed growth.

Jim, also gives you great tech support following the purchase.

We shall have the web Reservations setup within a week.

Try Trip Tracker even if you are a 1 car guy. well worth invest for the long run.

Taxi & Limousine Illegal Street Hail CRACKDOWN

The city is slamming the brakes on rogue livery drivers.

Officials are hellbent on stopping livery hacks who take illegal street hails -- writing more tickets for the infraction in the first four months of 2011 than in all of 2010 combined, new figures show.

Agents from the Taxi & Limousine Commission racked up a record 3,016 summonses for illegal hails through April, a nearly 15 percent jump from the total of 2,584 written last year.

Liveries are not allowed to take street hails -- and when they do, riders often get wildly overcharged. Industry insiders also argue that the practice devalues the price tags on yellow-cab medallions.

STOP RIGHT THERE: Undercover TLC officers, posing as cab hailers, bust livery drivers last week for illegal street pickups in Midtown.
STOP RIGHT THERE: Undercover TLC officers, posing as cab hailers, bust livery drivers last week for illegal street pickups in Midtown.

Most summonses were racked up during undercover stings -- and last Wednesday The Post had a front seat to the action.

A reporter watched as TLC undercover agents, posing as passengers with luggage, ticketed 19 livery cars in a three-hour period on Fifth Avenue between 55th and 56th streets.

The results were dumbfounding -- and occasionally dangerous. Those busted included:

* A furious driver who begged officers, "Please don't give me a summons." He'd quoted a fare of $20 for a 21-block ride to 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

He was cited for the illegal hail and failure to display a license.

* A town-car driver, yakking on his cellphone, slowed down to rubberneck and laugh at another driver being pulled over. He got a $200 ticket for the cellphone infraction.

* Two drivers stopped to pick up actual passengers during the TLC sting. One quoted a fare of $25 to the Gansevoort Park Avenue hotel, and the other wanted $40 to go to the Soho Grand.

* In one harrowing incident, a driver in a limousine bearing Connecticut plates who'd quoted a $10 fare to Penn Station screeched away, trunk open, from the curb when he saw the agents' badges.

He blew through a red light on Fifth Avenue and made a wild right-hand turn from the far left-hand lane onto 55th Street. The TLC squad got his plate and issued tickets.

"These guys are absolutely brazen," TLC boss David Yassky told The Post. "We will keep going until people get the message."

The ticket blitz was boosted by a slew of April summonses. TLC officers hit livery drivers with 1,300 illegal-hail tickets, compared with just 64 in the same period a year ago, according to the data.

In all of 2009, The TLC wrote just 708 tickets to drivers who illegally picked up fares.

A first offense carries a $350 fine, followed by $500 for a second offense and then a possible loss of license.

MERCEDES BENZ R CLASS ends!

"There will be no model year 2013 R-Class in the U.S.," the company said in a statement, adding that the large crossover will continue to be assembled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and shipped to other markets around the world.

Spokesman Christian Bokich, in a phone interview said China remains the most popular market for the R-Class. He said Mercedes will continue to sell the vehicle in Canada and Mexico after it is discontinued in the U.S.

"The customer trend in the U.S. has been toward GLs and MLs and GLKs," Bokich said. "The business case (for the R-Class) is no longer there in the U.S."

Bokich said the company continues to upgrade the Tuscaloosa plant, which is undergoing a $2.4-billion expansion in preparation for production of the redesigned 2013 GL and the next-generation C-Class.
